“골롬반 평신도 선교사 강정마을 방문, 평화 연대 메시지 전달”

7월 7일 월요일, 저는 국제적인 선교 단체인 Lay Missionaries ( *평신도 선교단체) 에 합류하여 제주 강정마을에 연대 방문하였습니다. 강정마을은 8년 동안이나 해군기지 건설에 반대하여 비폭력 평화 투쟁을 전개해온 멋진 투쟁 현장 입니다. 그리고 주민들과 평화 활동가들은 제주의 군사화와 더불어 “평화의 섬”으로 지정된 곳의 기지 건설이 제주와 한반도 전체를 더 크고 힘있는 국가들 간 전쟁의 직접적 기로에 놓을 것을 심각하게 걱정하고 있습니다. Lay Missionaries 는 평화와 연대의 메시지를 강정사람들에게 아래와 같이 전달했습니다!

우리는 국제 선교 그룹 Columban Lay Missionaries 으로서 연대와 우정으로 강정에 방문하였습니다. 그리고 모든 창조물을 위협하는 확장된 군사화로부터 제주도와 강정 마을을 보호하고자 하는 여러분들의 호소에 함께 합니다. 우리는 해군기지 건설을 즉각 중단하기를 촉구하며 여러분들과 함께 합니다.

당신들의 지속적 공개적 증언은 모든 문화와 종교의 선의와 믿음을 가진 사람들이 평화를 위한 공유된 비전에 함께 할 수 있는 또 다른 세계가 가능하다는 희망의 신호임을 믿습니다. 우리는. 평화와 삶의 전체성을 위한 목소리를 표현하는 당신들의 용기와 창의성을 축복합니다.

우리는 제주도의 군사화가 아시아태평양의 군사화란 서방지역의 더 큰 강조의 한 부분이라고 봅니다. 역사는 군사기지들이 지역 사회의 생태계, 문화유산, 생계를 위협하며 특히 아이들과 여성들을 취약하게 할 것을 말합니다.

I joined an International group of Lay Missionaries on a solidarity visit to Gangjeong, Jeju on Mon 7th July! Gangjeong village is the scene of an amazing 8 yea…r non violent peaceful struggle against the building of a Naval base! Villagers and peace activists are deeply concerned about the militarization of Jeju and the building of the base on the designated “Island of Peace” will place Jeju and the entire peninsula directly in the crosshairs of war between the bigger more powerful nations! The Lay Missionaries delivered the message of peace and solidarity to the people of Gangjeong below!

Columban Lay Mission message of solidarity!

As an International group of Columban Lay Missionaries we visit Gangjeong in solidarity and friendship and join with you in calling for the protection of Gangjeong Village and Jeju Island from expanded militarization which threatens all of Creation. We join you in calling for the building of the naval base to be stopped immediately.

We believe your on-going public witness is a sign of hope that another world is possible in which people of goodwill and faith from all cultures and religions can join together in a shared vision for peace. We celebrate your courage and creativity in expressing your voices for peace and for the wholeness of life.

We join you calling for global peace and a world free of violence in all its forms. We see the militarization of Jeju Island as part of a broader emphasis from the West on the militarization of the Asia Pacific. History tells us that military bases threaten ecosystems, cultural heritage, and the livelihoods of the local community, with women and children being particularly vulnerable. Military bases, missiles, missile defense systems once again place Jeju and the entire Korean peninsula directly n the crosshairs of war between larger more powerful nations.

We are inspired by your witness and stand with you in joy and hope that peace is possible.
